Consumers really do understand the main benefits of the OneVu service – recent
research told us that. But it’s clear that they find incentives
more convincing than saving the environment (press
release, 5 January 2009).
We therefore decided to test how a £500 cash prize draw would influence take-up. Starting mid-February 2009, four billers sent out local versions of this flyer with bills; one featured the promotion in their consumer newsletter.
To complete the process, a competition microsite was built to drive consumers to bank service websites and OneVu Online. In addition, just before the initial competition closed on 30 April 2009 we sent a reminder e-mail to previously registered customers.
The promotion has been a great success. Activations during the promotional period outstripped those of other billers by a factor of 72, giving a customer acquisition cost of just £1.25 per user. Which proves that:
